Portland-based indie pop group The Crystal Furs and Alameda, California’s Pennywhistle Park are proud to announce the release of a split 7” vinyl single featuring a set of mutual covers, “Dashboard” b/w “Like You,” releasing on July 22, 2022.
Despite sharing roots in the Dallas/Fort Worth area in Texas, the two groups didn’t interact until years later, via a chance encounter with Seattle radio show Pop Songs Your New Boyfriend’s Too Stupid To Know About. During an interview, The Crystal Furs mentioned one of Pennywhistle Park’s songs from a Texas record label compilation, which led to the groups meeting virtually and becoming friends via Zoom calls.
The two bands decided to record covers of each other’s songs, resulting in their new split vinyl single. The Crystal Furs cover “Dashboard” from Pennywhistle Park’s 2001 album The Build-Up for the Big Let Down, filtering it through their 1960s pop influences. Pennywhistle Park takes “Like You” from the Crystal Furs’ 2020 album Beautiful and True and gives it a furious blast of punk energy.
“Dashboard” b/w “Like You” is released on Emperial Sugar Records, a new label started by Pennywhistle Park’s Lindsay Romig that exclusively releases works produced by women and nonbinary artists.
The vinyl version of the split single, available on clear pink vinyl, can be found at
